COUNCIL MINUTES – March 20, 2017

The Town Council met on Monday, March 20, 2017, 6:30 p.m.. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Adams, followed by prayer given by Reynolds. Present on roll call were Mayor Adams, Reynolds, Dunn, Gleason Jr., Barnes and Miller-Borg.

 

Motion made by Miller-Borg approving the prior minutes from March 6, 2017, 2nd Barnes & approved by Council.

 

               Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Barnes, Reynolds, Dunn and Gleason Jr.                                          Nays:  None.

The Mayor’s Association Meeting will be held tomorrow, Tuesday March 21, 2017, 7:30 a.m., at Ashville City Hall. The Director of Operations, Phillip Johnson, from The Well House will be speaking.

Mayor Adams spoke with Tyler from A-1 Exterminating concerning the termites in the restrooms at the ball field. Doug, the one who sprays for the Town, found them recently and let us know about the infestation. A-1 Exterminating can put bait traps out and also spray the inside and outside of the restrooms for $200. After discussion, motion was made by Barnes approving to pay $200 to A1 Exterminating for the termite spraying and bait traps, 2nd Reynolds & approved by Council.

  Ayes:  Barnes, Reynolds, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Miller-Borg.

  Nays:  None.

Mayor Adams advised that David Riley had waxed the new Fire Station floors and they look really good. Riley had mentioned that the floors at Town Hall need a partial strip and wax before they get any worse, which he would do for $225. After discussion, motion was made by Reynolds to pay David Riley $225 to do a partial stripping and wax at Town Hall, 2nd Miller-Borg & approved by Council.

 

                                      Ayes:  Reynolds, Miller-Borg, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.

  Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams has spoke with Carol Pappas at Discover magazine and Steele will be featured in the April 6, 2017 edition of Discover The Essence of St. Clair magazine. A 1/4 page ad would cost $352, which will include advertising the July 4th celebration. After discussion, motion was made by Miller-Borg approving to purchase a 1/4 page ad in the Discover magazine for $352, 2nd Reynolds & approved by Council.

  Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams reminded everyone about the Town Council having a Quarterly Work Session on Monday, March 27, 2017, 6:30 p.m.. at Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend.

Mayor Adams spoke with the Public Works employees about the rain gear they would like and he got some prices together.

       $122.75 – Thor 300D Class 3 Hi-Vis rain jacket

       $100.00 – Hi-Vis rain pants

After discussion, motion was made by Dunn to purchase 2 sets of rain gear that will total $222.75 each, 2nd Reynolds & approved by the Council.

 

  Ayes:  Dunn, Reynolds, Gleason Jr., Barnes and Miller-Borg.

  Nays:  None.

 

We need a new PH tester to test the PH & temperature at the lagoon. Motion was made by Reynolds approving the purchase of $76 to purchase a new PH Tester, 2nd Barnes & approved by the Council.

 

  Ayes:  Reynolds, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Miller-Borg.

  Nays:  None.

 

Steele Jr. High School is hosting a Raider Run on Saturday, April 22, 2017, 9 a.m. and asked for a donation of 8-10 cases of small bottles of water. After discussion, Mayor Adams will get more information from Jessica Morphis before we decide anything further.

 

Mr. Hunsucker was present at the last Council Meeting and requested that “no littering” signs placed on Wood Street. Mayor Adams let everyone know that they have been put out.

 

Barnes asked if Mayor Adams had heard anything on the Steele Station Road project?

The Mayor let everyone know that Houston Jenkins, the Town’s engineer, has submitted 2 proposals to the state and we are waiting to hear back .

 

Miller-Borg spoke with Lee Ann Clark, about the Farmer’s Market. She suggested that we contact John Willoughby, Farmers Market Authority in Montgomery to learn more about operating a Market. Miller-Borg will try to set up a meeting with Mr. Willoughby.

 

Roy Phillips thanked the Fire Department for the quick response they had responding to a fire at the Phillips residence.
