COUNCIL MINUTES – September 5, 2017
The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Town Hall. Upon roll call the following members were present:
Present: Roger Adams, Mayor
Richard Reynolds, Councilmember
Brent Dunn, Councilmember
Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember
Rick Barnes, Councilmember
Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember
Absent: None.
Mayor Adams asked Councilmember Reynolds to lead everyone in a word of prayer.
The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, August 21, 2017, motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to approve the minutes, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Miller-Borg, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Barnes. Nays: None.
Wayne Smith, with Truitt Insurance, was present and left the renewal quote for the insurance that’s effective October 1, 2017. The renewal premium is $38,451.00 which is an increase of $4,215.00 from last year. Mayor Adams would like the Town Council to look over the renewal quote and discuss it at the next Council Meeting on September 18, 2017.
Councilmember Reynolds passed out the proposal for the FY 2017-2018 Budget. He would like the Town Council to look over the proposal and discuss it at the next Council Meeting on September 18, 2017.
Mayor Adams has spoken with Mary Walker about her reappointment to the Steele Water Board. Motion was made by Councilmember Gleason Jr. to reappoint Mary Walker to the Steele Water Board for the next 6 years, 2nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Gleason Jr., Dunn, Reynolds, Barnes and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
Mayor Adams would like to change the Library hours to six hours a day, Monday-Friday 11:00 am – 5:00 p.m.. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to approve the Library change that will be effective 09/11/2017, 2nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by then Town Council.
Ayes: Miller-Borg, Dunn, Reynolds, Gleason Jr., and Barnes.
Nays: None.
Mayor Adams read the August Fire/Medic report.
Mayor Adams passed out a list of Storm Shelter rules & guidelines for the Town Council to review.

Mayor Adams would like the Town Council to consider purchasing a small TV and antenna system for the Storm Shelter. The total would approximately be around $350.00-$400.00 total for the installation, brackets, TV and the antenna system.
Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg approving the purchase of polo shirts for the Fire Department at $28.70 per shirt totaling $602.70, 2nd Councilmember Reynolds & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Miller-Borg, Reynolds, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.
Nays: None.
Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the purchase of a TV for the Conference Room up to $900.00, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
The St. Clair County Mayor’s Association Meeting breakfast will be on Thursday,
September 14, 2017, 7:30 a.m. in Moody. Judge Alan Furr will be speaking.
The next Town Council Meeting will be on Monday, September 18, 2017, 6:30 p.m..
Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the purchase of a bluetooth PA system from Best Buy for $179.00, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Miller-Borg, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.
Nays: None.
With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of
September 5, 2017, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Councilmember Miller-Borg, adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
