Council Minutes

The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Steele Town Hall. Upon roll call the following members were present:

 

Present:              Roger Adams, Mayor

                            Richard Reynolds, Councilmember

                            Brent Dunn, Councilmember

                            Rick Barnes, Councilmember

                                                   

Absent:               Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember

                            Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember

 

Mayor Adams led everyone in a word of prayer.

 

The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on

Tuesday, September 5, 2017, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to approve the

minutes, 2^nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council.                                                                                       

                                                   Ayes:  Barnes, Dunn, Reynolds and Adams. 

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams requested the Town Council to review the August financial reports and approve at the next Council Meeting.

 

Wayne Smith, with Truitt Insurance, was present and mentioned that on the insurance we have now, employee theft is currently at $10,000 with a $250.00 deductible, which is $100 annually. Smith said we could increase our limits if needed.

                                    $50,000 limit – $250 deductible with an annual premium of $117

$100,000 limit- $250 deductible with an annual premium of $198

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the insurance with Truitt Insurance for a total of $38,451.00, 2^nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                     Ayes:  Reynolds, Barnes, Dunn and Adams.

                                                     Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the St. Clair County Commission office has sent the Town the prices for Central Dispatch, Juvenile Detention and EMA for FY 2018.

                                                 Central Dispatch – $36,095.00        

                                                 Juvenile Detention – $4,359.00

                                                 EMA – $261.50

Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to pay quarterly payments to the St. Clair County Commission for a total of $10,178.87, 2^nd Councilmember Reynolds & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                     Ayes:  Barnes, Reynolds, Dunn and Adams.

                                                     Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the TV for the conference room and the bluetooth PA system have been purchased.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the Alabama League of Municipalities sent a Thank You letter to the Town for our prompt response on paying our yearly membership dues.

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the Fire Department polo shirts have been ordered.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the Police Department 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe had to have emergency repairs. We had to replace the front brake pads, front rotors and other miscellaneous maintenance that cost $1,151.83.

The 2008 Crown Victoria also had to have a new wiper motor which cost $235.94.

 

Mayor Adams would like the Town Council to approve up to $100.00 to fix the restroom doors at the ballfield.

Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes approving $100.00 to repair the restroom doors at the ballfield, 2^nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council.

                                                         Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams spoke about the Storm Shelter rules & guidelines.

 

The Mayor made the following announcements:

 

 

• National Night Out will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Community Center and ballpark.

 

• The next Town Council Meeting will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds to approve the FY 2017-2018 budget, 2^nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

                                                            Nays:  None.

 

Councilmember Barnes reminded the Town Council that the Town Seal competition deadline is Friday, October 22, 2017.

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to use $ 1,189.99 out of the Steele Jr. High School’s allocation fund to purchase an ice machine for the school gymnasium, 2^nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council.

With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of

September 18, 2017, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the meeting, 2^nd by Councilmember Reynolds, adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
