COUNCIL MINUTES – October 2, 2017

The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at 6:30 pm on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Steele Town Hall. Upon roll call the following members were present:

 

Present:              Richard Reynolds, Councilmember/ Mayor Pro-Tem

                            Brent Dunn, Councilmember

                            Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember

                            Rick Barnes, Councilmember                    

                            Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember

 

Absent:              Roger Adams, Mayor

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Reynolds led everyone in a word of prayer.

 

The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on

Monday, September 18, 2017, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to approve the

 minutes, 2nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council, with Miller-Borg abstaining.                                                                                       

                                                   Ayes:  Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr., and Reynolds. 

                                                   Nays:  None.

Abstaining:  Miller-Borg.

 

The Town Council having reviewed the August financial reports, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes approving the financial reports, 2nd Councilmember Dunn & approved by the Town Council.

 

 Ayes:  Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr., Miller-Borg and Reynolds.

               Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Pro-Tem Reynolds informed the Town Council that the Ashville High School  wrestling team is requesting to have a roadblock on Saturday, October 7, 2017, 8:00 AM -12:00 Noon. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg approving the roadblock, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Reynolds.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg approving the Fire Department purchases of a lock for $60.82, drinks for $34.41, powder coating parts on the Brush Truck for $30.00 and graphics for the 2017 Freightliner Fire Truck for $538.75, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Reynolds.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes approving the renewal for Office 365 at $804.00 for twelve users, with the Water Board paying for two users, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Barnes, Gleason Jr., Dunn, Miller-Borg and Reynolds.

Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to accept the retirement of Fire Chief Robert McHugh, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Gleason Jr., Dunn, Barnes and Reynolds.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to appoint James Martin as the Interim Fire Chief, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Reynolds.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

The Mayor Pro-Tem made the following announcement:

  • The next Town Council Meeting will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Steele Town Hall.

 

Councilmember Gleason Jr. informed the Town Council that the ballfields are in good shape.

 

Councilmember Miller-Borg reminded the Town Council that National Night Out is tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 3, 2017, 5:00-7:00 p.m..

 

With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of

October 2, 2017, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Councilmember Miller-Borg, adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
