COUNCIL MINUTES – June 19, 2017
The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at Town Hall at 6:30 pm on Monday, June 19, 2017. Upon roll call the following members were present:

Richard Reynolds, Councilmember
Brent Dunn, Councilmember
Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember
Rick Barnes, Councilmember
Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember
Absent: None.
Mayor Adams asked Councilmember Gleason Jr. to lead everyone in a word of prayer.
The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on June 5, 2017, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to approve the minutes, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Barnes, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Miller-Borg. Nays: None.
Mayor Adams requested the Town Council to review the May financial reports and approve at the next Council Meeting.
Mrs. Anita Wilson, the Steele Jr. High School principal, was present and thanked the Town for supporting our local school. Mrs. Wilson informed the Mayor and Town Council that the school is applying for grants and working on new ways to grow. Mrs. Wilson also mentioned the school is applying for grants for new playground equipment. Mrs. Wilson asked the Mayor and Town Council if they might know of some citizens that would like to help donate towards the playground.
The Ashville High School football team is asking to have a roadblock in Steele on any Saturday available in July. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg approving the Ashville High school football team having a roadblock in July, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Miller-Borg, Barnes, Reynolds, Dunn and Gleason Jr.
Nays: None.
The Town Clerk, Jessica Martin, has a Clerk’s Institute Class August 23-25, 2017, in Tuscaloosa that will go towards the credits necessary to get certified as a Municipal Clerk. Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds to pay the $265 registration fee, mileage, food expenses & lodging at $120 per night, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Miller-Borg, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.
Nays: None.
Resolution 2017-005 removing the Town of Steele from the St. Clair County Library Board was adopted with a motion made by Councilmember Miller-Borg, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that every Library in St. Clair County will receive $10,000 a year from the St. Clair County Commission. A majority of these funds will come from the beer and wine tax that is designated for libraries.
Resolution 2017-006 for ALDOT resurfacing Interstate 59 was adopted with a motion made by Councilmember Barnes, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Barnes, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that Steele Station Road resurfacing will not begin until spring of 2018, due to the two Highway 11 bridges being closed.
Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the Fire Department purchase of batteries for the Fire Department pagers and battery packs for $650.00 out of the Fire & EMS account, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Miller-Borg, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.
Nays: None.
Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes approving the Sewer expense of supplies for $122.81 out of the Garbage & Sewer account, 2nd Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Barnes, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the Fire Department purchase of a pump test and annual service on the Freightliner and Kenworth fire trucks for $1,200.00 out of the Fire & EMS account, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Miller-Borg, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.
None: None.
Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes approving the purchase of $160 to purchase the phones for the Town Hall, 2nd Councilmember Gleason Jr. & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Barnes, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
The Police Chief, Mark Ward, has a Police Chief’s Conference July 31st– August 3rd, 2017, in Gulf Shores. Motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to pay the mileage, food expenses & lodging at $175 per night, 2nd Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Barnes, Miller-Borg, Reynolds, Dunn and Gleason Jr.
Nays: None.
Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that Police Chief Ward picked up the new 2017 Tahoe today.
Mayor Adams has talked with Rodney Cunningham about surveying the store building property.

Motion was made by Councilmember Reynolds approving the Quarterly Work Session on Monday, June 26, 2017 6:30 pm, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.
Ayes: Reynolds, Barnes, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Miller-Borg.
Nays: None.
Councilmember Dunn is planning the Town community cleanup day along with the Steele Jr. High School cleanup day.
Councilmember Miller-Borg spoke about the, “Love Your Neighbor” in Gadsden.
Councilmember Miller-Borg invited everyone to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday,
June 24, 2017.
With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of
June 19, 2017, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Councilmember Miller-Borg, adjourned at 7:07 p.m..
