COUNCIL MINUTES – JUNE 1, 2020

The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at 6:30 PM on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Steele Community Center. The following members were present:

Present: Roger Adams, Mayor
Richard Reynolds, Councilmember Michael Stevens, Councilmember Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember Rick Barnes, Councilmember

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Mayor Adams, who then asked Councilmember Gleason Jr. to lead everyone in a word of prayer.

The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, May 18, 2020, motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to approve the minutes, seconded by Councilmember Barnes and approved by the Town Council.

Ayes: Gleason Jr., Stevens, Miller-Borg, Barnes, and Reynolds. Nays: None.

The Town Council was given a copy of the March 2020 financials and April 2020 financials and asked to look them over for approval at the next council meeting. Having read the February 2020 financials from the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, May 4, 2020, motion was made by Councilmember Gleason, Jr. to approve the February 2020 financials, seconded by Councilmember Reynolds and approved by the Council.

Mayor Adams acknowledged Lynda Fann, the Town Librarian in attendance. She stated that she would like to use library monies to purchase a new computer for her desk. She has spoken to Jason at Lookout IT who said that he would get back to her with information on purchasing a new computer. Lynda Fann stated that the new computer would be in the price range of $700 – $1,000, and stated that she can use state money that is allocated for the library. Mayor Adams suggested that we cap the cost of the computer at $1,500.
Councilmember Barnes suggested a small form type tower computer due to the lack of space. Motion to approve the purchase of a computer for the library from library funds was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg, seconded by Councilmember Barnes and approved by the council.

Ayes: Gleason Jr., Stevens, Miller-Borg, Barnes, and Reynolds. Nays: None.

Mayor Adams mentioned that the Back to School Tax Holiday will be on July 17 – 19, 2020, and wanted to remind the Council that this is coming up next month.

Mayor Adams brought the Sanitary Sewer extension for Herb Collette Drive up for discussion. The town has received an invoice from Civil Consultants for $2110.02. This is for two site meetings, three conference calls, reviewing plans and specifications and reimbursable fees. Councilmember Gleason Jr. made a motion to approve the payment of
