COUNCIL MINUTES – July 17, 2017

 

The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at Town Hall at 6:30 pm on Monday, July 17, 2017. Upon roll call the following members were present:

 

Present:              Roger Adams, Mayor

                            Richard Reynolds, Councilmember

                            Brent Dunn, Councilmember

                            Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember

                            Rick Barnes, Councilmember

                            Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember

                          

Absent:               None.

 

Mayor Adams asked Councilmember Dunn to lead everyone in a word of prayer.

 

The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on Thursday, July 6, 2017, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to approve the minutes, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg & approved by the Town Council.

                                                    

                                                   Ayes:  Barnes, Miller-Borg, Reynolds, Dunn and Gleason Jr.      Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams has received two quotes on a garbage truck cart tipper.

     Ingram Equipment Company – Bayne cart tipper and backing installed – $5,700.65

     Ingram Equipment Company – Taskmaster cart tipper and backing installed – $4,300.65

Ingram Equipment Company recommends we purchase the Taskmaster cart tipper since we only have trash pickup once a week and the Bayne is more heavy duty for everyday use.

Motion was made by Councilmember Dunn to purchase the Taskmaster cart tipper from Ingram Equipment Company for $4,300.65 that will be paid from the Garbage & Sewer account, 2nd Councilmember Reynolds & approved by the Town Council.

 

                                                   Ayes:  Dunn, Reynolds, Gleason Jr., Barnes and Miller-Borg.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that there’s a vacant position on the Water Works Board. Mayor Adams would like the Council to appoint a replacement at the next Council meeting.

 

The Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) Nutrition Agreement for FY 2018 is up for renewal. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg giving the Mayor authority to sign the renewal, 2nd Councilmember Reynolds & approved by the Town Council.

 

   Ayes:  Miller-Borg, Reynolds, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Barnes.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Mayor Adams requested the Town Council to review the June financial reports and approve at the next Council Meeting.

 

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that the grant for resurfacing the streets did not meet the criteria, therefore it will not be pursued.

Mayor Adams asked Chris Quinn to get quotes together for a front bucket for the Kubota B3200 tractor. The bucket could be used to assist with loading gravel, etc. when the backhoe is out on a job site. Also, it could be used to go completely around the walking trail at the park.

                        Fout’s Tractor Company – LA504 54″ bucket installed – $4,000.00

                        Blount County Tractor Company – LA504 54″- bucket installed – $3,600.00

After discussion, this was tabled until we receive more information and cost estimates.

 

Mayor Adams would like to look into getting a debit or credit card for the Town. We checked with Charleen at People’s Independent Bank and they don’t offer the credit cards, just the debit. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to give Mayor Adams authorization to check into the different cards, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

                                                    Nays:  None.

 

Police Chief Ward would like the Town to look into getting two more cameras for the camera system. The cameras would be able to cover the Fire Department, Community Center and Library. Motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg approving the purchase of two cameras and cables up to a total of $300, 2nd Councilmember Barnes & approved by the Town Council.

                                                   Nays:  None.

 

Police Chief Ward would like the Town to consider getting a plexiglass window for the office window and a new door for security protection. Mayor Adams would like to check into getting some estimates.

 

Councilmember Dunn reminded the Town Council that the 3rd Annual Serve Day at Steele Jr. High School will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017. He’s also reserved a dumpster for the Town’s Cleanup Day that day as well.

Councilmember Dunn also mentioned that on Sunday, July 30, 2017, 5:00 pm at the Steele Jr. High School gym there will be a “Back to School Bash” for the kids.

The Farmer’s Market has grown from four to seven vendors.

 

Councilmember Barnes discussed the Town Seal competition.

 

Councilmember Miller-Borg thanked Police Chief Ward for getting Lifesaver helicopter to come to National Night Out in October.

 

The next Council Meeting will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017, 6:30 pm.

 

With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of

July 17, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Councilmember Miller-Borg, adjourned at 7:15 p.m..
