COUNCIL MINUTES – December 16, 2019

The Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama, met in Regular Session at 6:30 PM on Monday, December 16, 2019, at Steele Town Hall. Upon roll call the following members were present:

Present: Roger Adams, Mayor
Richard Reynolds, Councilmember Brent Dunn, Councilmember Philip Gleason Jr., Councilmember Rick Barnes, Councilmember
Nancy Miller-Borg, Councilmember

Absent: None.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Adams, who then led everyone in a word of prayer.

The Town Council having read the minutes from the Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, December 2, 2019, motion was made by Councilmember Barnes to approve the minutes, seconded Councilmember Reynolds and approved by the Town Council, with Mayor Adams abstaining.

Ayes: Barnes, Reynolds, Dunn, Gleason Jr. and Miller-Borg. Nays: None.
Abstained: Mayor Adams.

Mayor Adams requested the Town Council to review the November financial reports for approval at the next Council Meeting.

Mike Sewell, with McClure, Sewell & Associates, was present and went over the FY 2018- 2019 audit report showing that the Town is in good financial shape.

Mayor Adams read a thank you letter from Unipres for the Town’s contribution to the Unipres Alabama Annual Charity Golf Tournament which was held on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The event raised $11,900.00 and the funds will go towards the purchase of gifts for children in need in St. Clair County.

Mayor Adams informed the Town Council that Mike Sewell will be coming back out on Monday, January 13, 2019 for quarterly reviews.

Mayor Adams stated to the Town Council that the Town has finished all the reviews for the CDBG Water Tank Account and we no longer need the bank account. Mayor Adams
would like to change the CDBG Water Tank Account name at People’s Independent Bank
to the Demolition Project Grant Account. The Town Council agreed that was acceptable.

The Mayor made the following announcements:
• The garbage service will be delayed the next two weeks due to the Christmas holiday
and New Year’s holiday. The truck will run on Friday and Saturday. instead of

Councilmember Barnes will be meeting with Lookout IT on Friday, December 20, 2019 to discuss security for the Town computers.

Councilmember MiJler-Borg asked resident Brandon Crawford to speak on behalf of the Steele Jr. High School Athletics Department. Crawford stated that the Athletics Department is short approximately $1,400.00 this year on equipment, uniforms and the end of the year banquet.
After discussion, motion was made by Councilmember Miller-Borg to use $1,000.00 allocated out of the budget to donate to Steele Jr. High School – Athletes Department, seconded Councilmember Gleason Jr. and approved by the Town Council.

Ayes: Miller-Borg, Gleason Jr., Reynolds, Dunn and Barnes. Nays: None.

Councilmember Miller-Borg stated that the Kid’s Christmas Fest which was held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the Community Center was very successful.

Mayor Adams introduced our newest Police Officer, Whit Burttram, to the Town Council.

Fire Chief James Martin informed the Town Council that Firefighter Ashley Crawford has passed her EMT, Emergency Medical Technician, final and she will just have to take her National Registry in January.

Fire Chief James Martin stated that Fire Medic Jason Green helped save the manager at Love’s life back last year.

Mayor Adams declared a vacancy on the Town Council effective December 31, 2019. The Mayor thanked Brent Dunn for his willingness to sen 1e the community.

Mayor Adams would like for the Town Council to appoint a new Council Member at the next Council Meeting on Monday, January 6, 2019.

With there being no further business to come before this Regular Council Meeting of December 16, 2019, Councilmember Barnes made a motion to adjourn the/4eefng, 2nd Councilmember Miller-Borg, adjourned at 7:00 PM
