The Town of Steele is searching for a Librarian who can energize the Library in our small town in NW St Clair County.

Librarian Job Responsibilities:

Plans and supervises the operation of a small community library.

Oversee the library to ensure cleanliness, order, and protection of the library’s resources.

Responsible for the selection, development, and maintenance of a collection of materials in one or more broad and complex subject area(s).

Develop and organize library inventory (e.g. with books, collections, periodicals, multimedia, etc.).

Help patrons research reading materials and references.

Catalogs and classifies a wide range of materials,

Organize activities and promotional events (e.g. children’s storytelling, author readings, book sales, etc.).

Locate and apply for grants.

Manage library budgeting.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Hours & Benefits:

This is a regular part-time position with a 30-hour work week.  There are 12 paid holidays each year along with paid vacation and sick leave benefits.  Group health benefits are available to employee and their family members.  Starting salary will be commensurate with experience, training and education.

Librarian Qualifications / Skills

Previous experience as a librarian.

Experience using computers and working with electronic databases, familiarity with information management systems.

Strong organizational skills.

Judgment in providing appropriate material and library services to diverse patrons/clientele.

Cataloging and classification.

Reference and materials selection.

Effective communication.

A patient and friendly personality.

Education and Experience

Progressively responsible professional experience in one or more major functional areas of librarianship.

Experience in selection, acquisition, cataloging and classification of materials, collection development and maintenance, reference and readers’ advisory services, or development and promotion of library services.
