OPPOSITION TO THE PILGRIM’S PRIDE CORPORATION

 

PROPOSED AN™AL RENDERING PLANT

 

TOWN OF STEELE COUNTY OF ST. CLAIR STATE OF ALABAMA

 

BE IT RESOLVED, the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Steele, Alabama are opposed to the construction of the Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation proposed animal rendering plant to be located at 3900 Steele Station Road, which is owned by the Gadsden Airport Authority, and

WHEREAS, the Town of Steele has many residents who own businesses and/or work in the cities of Attalla, Rainbow City and Gadsden and feel the impact of the quality of air, life, environment and water discharge will negatively affect them; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Steele believes the property values of residents will be impacted by the rendering plant being placed in Etowah County; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Steele believes the economic impact will hinder current businesses and industries as well as hinder the future recruitment of any business or industry; and

WHEREAS, the overall negative impact of the placement of this plant will be detrimental in all aspects to our citizens, businesses, churches and neighboring cities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHUR RESOLVED by the Town of Steele that this official document shall be made a part of the public comments section and forwarded to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
